Ramadin Profile.jpg

Ramadin Nurul

from Wakatobi, South East Sulawesi

Who is Ramadin?

I met Ramadin for the first time in 2015 on trip to wakatobi. He is a creative networker and knows many people in this area. He’s in contact with numerous organisations and communities like local dive shops and the Wakatobi information centre.

Why to donate here?

The inhabitants of wakatobi realised that their pristine reefs are part of their identity and realised it as a source of income. Meanwhile many people are living from this circumstances and automaticly protect theier source of income. As the Covid-19 Pandemic hit - there was all of a sudden no income for those working in marine based tourism. And still in 2022 there are almost no tourist. To support these people, including Ramadin you can choose this option. Check out here, what we already could do!

What else?

Mangrove restoration! Southeast Asia is home to huge areas of Mangrove forests. These areas were declining over the years due to several reasons. In some areas the restoration has begun. And so in Kaledupa, Ramadins home Island! From your Donation Ramadin will buy “Mangrove” plants for the local communities.

Ramadin will split the Donation in one half for the people formerly lived from marine tourism, and the other half goes to the mangrove reforestation project.

Wakatobi?

You may not know where Wakatobi is exactly, as this little wonderful place is quite far off the beaten path. It is part of South East Sulawesi. The small archipelago counts numerous Islands, with the main Islands being Wangi Wangi, Kaledupa, Tomia and Binongko. In the last couple of years the area became easier to travel to for tourists and a few small local dive shops opened up (for years after there was only Wakatobi dive resort, which is rather pricey). Having been to one of the small dive shops myself I think the locals are doing an excellent job in this area.

Who is I Nenagh Putu?

I nengah Putu is one of my close friends and the owner of Bali Dive Quest. Not only is he a man of his word, he’s a true jack of all trades. Besides being a Hindu priest and the owner of a dive shop he’s also one of the Tulamben diving organisation & Tulamben coral guardians (and many more…).

Why to donate here?

Tulamben diving organisation was built years ago to support the local community in making a living from diving tourism. You may realised when you where there. If you dive directly in Tulamben, someone brings your bottle to the beach (with a motorbike) and also back again. Mostly women are waiting by the beach to carry your tank, on their head!, further down the beach. I think this is a great idea to let the community around participate in the profit of diving tourism.

The Tulamben Guardians made it their task to protect the ocean. They are part of Koperasi Sekar Baruna (local tank porters, you may have seen whilst diving in Tulamben) and organize underwater clean-ups as well as coral plantation & beach clean-ups.

I nengah Putu will make sure that the donations will be distributed equally between local organisations, dive shops and communities in the Tulamben area in Bali. He will keep me updated about who the donation reaches and the impact the donations make. Which I will of course report on my website as well as on Facebook and Instagram. Since pretty much all locals living in Tulamben and the surrounding area are heavily depending on divers from around the world and the tourism they bring your donation will make a big impact in supporting their community.
